It feels good to be back in the home studio after spending the last three weeks in Massachusetts, so, it’s once again time for “Great Soul Performances” on home turf. This evening we’ll hear music from: the Commodores, Gene Chandler, Blue Magic, Angel Rissoff, Joe Cuba, Wynonnie Harris, Archie Bell & the Drells, Jimmy Castor, the Soul Survivors, Ray Charles & the Raelettes, Curtis Mayfield live in concert, segment 9 of the “Motown Story” and a whole lot more. We’ll begin as usual at 7PM ET, 6PM CT, 5PM MT and 4PM PT. Let’s get together and have a good time later on “Great Soul Performance” right here on RadioMaxMusic.com.
The motion picture biography of the “Godfather of Soul,” “Get On Up” opened nationwide yesterday, and it occurred to me that I had never done a tribute to James Brown since he passed away on Christmas Day in 2006. Therefore this evening on “Great Soul Performances” it’ll be wall to wall James Brown. You’ll of course hear several of the big hits, but you’ll also hear many songs that weren’t big hits, but truly represent the “hardest working man in show business. I also plan to play songs by other artists who loved JB as well and recorded some nice remakes. Artists like Steven Tyler & Aerosmith, Joss Stone and my latest studio group, the Sons of Saint Rocco, featuring Phil Granito, Angel Rissoff, Seth Glassman and yours truly. We recorded three James Brown tunes and you’ll hear them all. I think you’ll really enjoy this salute to James Brown, so join me for “Great Soul Performances” later this evening at 7PM EDT, 6PM CT, 5PM MT and 4PM PT. And don’t forget, if you want to hear the show again, beginning Monday you can click on the PODCAST link, or go direct to http://radiomaxmusic.com/podcasts.html for a listing of all the RadioMax programs available “On Demand.” So dig me later when we’ll “Get On Up” and get down on the “Good Foot” for James Brown & the Famous Flames along with Bobby Byrd and Maceo Parker with the JB’s on RadioMaxMusic.com.
We’ve come to the end of May. On this 31st of May, I think it’s wise to bring you up-to-date with changes here at RadioMax. We will no longer offer replays or encore performances of our shows. Instead the programs will be available “On Demand” beginning the following Monday. Also, “Great Soul Performances 2: The 80’s” will not air on Wednesdays any longer. Here’s how it will go down. “Great Soul Performances” (The Original) will air as usual on Saturdays at 7PM ET, and “Great Soul Performances 2″ The 80’s” will air now on Sundays at 5PM ET. Both shows will be available the following Monday “On Demand.”
Listeners can click on the PODCAST link, or go direct to http://radiomaxmusic.com/podcasts.html for a listing of all the RadioMax programs available “On Demand.” With all of that said, this evening on “Great Soul Performances” you will hear: Major Lance, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, James Brown, Bill Doggett, Little Anthony & the Imperials, Don Covay, Jackie Wilson, the Chi-Lites, Angel Rissoff, Patti Drew, with Stephanie Mills & Tom Jones (live in concert) and a lot, lot more.
