
Jewell Caples (June 12, 1968 – May 6, 2022), better known as Jewell was an American singer who performed on multi-platinum R&B/Hip-Hop albums.
Jewell was signed to Death Row Records from 1992 to 1996, “The First Lady of Death Row Records,”. In 1994, she covered Shirley Brown’s song “Woman to Woman” which reached 72nd on the Billboard Hot 100, and peaked at #16 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs list. She also released “Love or Lust,” featured in Bill Duke’s film, Deep Cover (mis-credited in movie end-credits as “Jewel”). and is featured on two songs on the 1994 Above the Rim soundtrack.
Caples’ cause of death has not been made public. The news comes two months after she opened about about her health struggles on Instagram. She told fans that she was hospitalized on March 2 after doctors found 8 pounds of fluid around her heart, lungs and legs. She was readmitted to the hospital for treatment on March 16 and released days later.
